What is the honing finishing process?

Honing finishing is to insert a grindstone on the honing surface and apply pressure to the workpiece surface. Both honing tools or workpieces need to rotate relative to each other or reciprocate axially and linearly to cut the smallest machining allowance on the part.

In general, the contact area between the honing surface and the holding surface is large, and the processing efficiency is also high. Sometimes aircraft can also be processed under certain conditions. The dimensional accuracy of the hole after honing is IT7~4, Ra 0.32~0.04. This is a very precise thing for us. The honing accuracy can make the hole tolerance reach IT6-IT7 level, and the surface polishing Ra0.2-0.025um, and the honing process can make the hole shape tolerance below 0.005mm, but some medium-sized holes are even smaller than 0.001mm, etc.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the honing finishing process?

The honing finishing process is an efficient machining method to achieve high precision, surface quality and good life of the part surface, which can effectively improve the dimensional and shape accuracy and reduce the RA value. But it does not improve the positioning accuracy of holes and other surfaces.

It can process cast iron, hardened and non-hardened steel and bronze parts, but it is not suitable for processing non-ferrous metal parts with high toughness.

Suitable for hole machining. The honing process is guided by the center of the original machined hole. The processing aperture range is φ5~φ500, and the depth can reach 10.

It is widely used in the processing of mass-produced cylinder bores, cylinder barrels, valve holes and various gun barrels. At the same time, we will also use it for some small batch production.

Small cutting allowance for honing

It is a very good machining method that can accurately correct hole size, hole polishing, out-of-roundness, taper and hole deviation, etc.

Of course, there are certain shortcomings in the honing process, and the concentricity cannot be determined.

Compared with ordinary grinding, honing can reduce labor, improve production efficiency, and be easy to automate.
